I've been on a bit of a Batman kick lately, and while I don't have the latest two versions of the Batmobile I have wanted this one for a while too. Moebius released this version of the Tumbler with the missile launcher not too long ago. It comes with a resin Bane figure as well. I didn't know this at the time but it includes the parts to build either this version OR the Batmobile.
I have read that this is a complex kit, and it lives up to it's reputation. The quality is first rate, but I made several mistakes during the build because I did not follow the instructions precisely.
Like all Moebius kits, the instructions are printed in a large and very well done full color manual. Some steps are a bit tricky though, and you have to be very careful as many parts for one version of the kit do not work for the other. It's easy to work too fast and get ahead of yourself.
Before I dug into the kit itself I decided to build and paint Bane. The figure is cast in white resin, and gorgeously sculpted. It's only in two pieces so assembly is quick and easy. I painted the figure with Vallejo acrylics using washes and drybrushing for details.
I'm really happy with how Bane turned out. I'm going to have to get a matching scale Batman for him to square off against. :)
Like most automotive - type kits, the interior is the first thing to get assembled. I started with the seats and interior tub. I also built the consoles and controls but they will not get installed until after the tub is painted.
After the interior tub is built, pretty much everything else is added to that structure. The sides are built up first, with the removable top section built separately. The interior will be fully detailed on this kit, but if you don't want to do the extra work it would be really easy to black out the windows and just close it up.
This is where things got tricky for me. A lot of the armor pieces for the two versions of the kit are similar, but certain ones will not fit correctly depending on the version being built. I had to backtrack a couple of times.
It's starting to look like something!
I test fitted the top just to make sure everything lined up well. The windows won't go in until after everything is painted. I'm not sure if I will tint the windows yet....I'm thinking of going with a polarized blue-green look.
The wheels and tires are also temporarily attached so I can make sure the model sits correctly. The wheels can be attached to be able to spin, but I will likely glue them in place.
