Automotive Art

My family has been involved in the car restoration hobby for many years, and I've always had a fascination with automotive art. I'll post my latest pieces in that vein here, as well as current works in progress.

I actually painted this a long time ago, but I never had published it anywhere. Oil on masonite, approx. 11" x 48".

This blown 1948 Anglia is really something in person.....I drew this for the owner of the
car as a prize for winning my sponsor trophy at a local show.

This pink Desoto is probably my new favorite....just the grille and tires left to do
and it's ready to go.

The black Corvette is a new commission, recently finished and sent to the owner.

Finished up this Mini while working my first official booth as a vendor at a big car show. Got some nice commissions that weekend too!

Just finished up this Ranchero piece for my boss. I actually striped this car a few months ago and decided then that I needed to do a picture of it. He has an impressive collection, and I'm going to be drawing some more of his cars in the future.

I decided to add some two wheeled goodness to the portfolio. This orange Honda Forza is the first motorcycle I've drawn in a while and I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Many of you may recognize this one....o'Connor's Ford Escort RS from Fast 6. One of my favorite
classic British cars.

GM Futurliner. Would love to see one of these in person.

Updated photo of the GMC fire truck.

I've been working on this old Pierce-Arrow for a while.....it's probably the most challenging one I've attempted so far.

I did this painting for a live event for my part time job at a fundraiser for Honor Flight at Blacktop Nationals. Took about two hours. It's acrylic on canvas, 2' x 3'.

V6 Rat Rod that I saw at a local car show.

Tiny Fiat 500!

The GT40 is my current favorite, but the little Fiat 500 is a close second.

I actually started this painting about ten years ago. A couple weeks back I was working on it at a car show and the owner of this '32 Pontiac happened to walk by! He even brought the car to my house so I could check it out again. I finished this one up based on a few suggestions the owner gave me to correct some minor mistakes.

Harley acrylic painting

This one took a while.....a large painting of my stepdad's Harley.

Mural Project

I recently picked up a commission to do a small mural for a soon-to-open restaurant/bar. The owner pretty much gave me free rein and the pick of wall to use. I decided to go with something a little simpler, as we agreed that a complex, detailed image might be too busy for a dining area. I used the traditional 'grid' method to lay out and draw the image, based on some car show photos. Overall size will be about 42" wide by 90" tall.

I sketched the basic layout using blue and black colored pencil, just getting the basic shapes established. I will start painting later this week, working primarily dark to light.

I started by blocking in the darkest areas with pure black or very dark grays. After most of the shapes were established I began working in the color.

The owner and I decided that yellow would be a nice color for the paint on the car....up to this point we were unsure what color it was going to be. I blocked in the body areas with white to help with coverage of the lighter yellow basecoat.

Now that the whole picture is fairly well laid out, I began to focus on individual areas of the picture. Most of the chrome is very close to done at this point. I spent most of today working on the yellow areas and the taillights.

Here is where I'm at after today. I've spent about 8-10 hours on the piece so far.

Finished!

**UPDATE**

Sad to say, the business that this mural was painted in did not last long, and it has since been painted over. Good thing I got good pictures of it!
